Please do submit it into the competition, Thea. This is a really beautiful piece.......Please, Please do...

Thea, this is just stunning! I strongly support Ping's cajoling - you should definitely submit this. I love how much you've captured suggested with such economical use of brushwork, and really admire your great control of tone. Thank you too for your comment on my painting. You really encourage me!

Your inimitable style - a wonderful portrait. I love it.

Well done Thea! You had another go then. I keep thinking "right, that's it, no more Terry& Fiona" and then I see another painting here and the urge to try yet again creeps into my head!! Wasn't Robert Jones' rant hilarious? I totally understood how he felt, infact I feel the same. I've wasted too many hours on this without any satisfactory result! Louise

Oh well done! This is a lovely portrait so fresh - I think you have caught a good likeness - definitely the best Terry so far. I am on my third attempt, just keep messing up Terry! Anyway you must put this into the competition - its so lovely.

Love your blend of colours Thea. I think this is an attractive natural portrait.

I wonder if this is the nearest yet ... as always, love your use of watercolour. I still think whoever suggested this subject, and provided us with that photo, is guilty of double-dyed evil, and I just can't entirely escape the hope that whoever it was catches their fingers in their collapsible easel - or goes out on a really remote field-trip, only to discover they've left their brushes at home. Call me extreme ....

That's lovely. It exudes happiness, which is exactly what you want for a wedding picture.

You haven't overworked it Thea and that's a huge plus. Less is more in portraiture. Above all, as Catherine says, it's happy and has character. So that's a thumbs-up.

I think also that you must send it. Your painting is fresh, no fuss and even Terry is nearly there. I'm still thinking if I should have another go. The canvas is up but do I want to torment myself once more. Fortunately time is running out soon. Good luck Thea!

This really is a winner Thea.....I am sure they will love it.

Thank you all so much for your encouragement which has made me pluck up the courage to submit my entry for the competition. I have never painted a portrait of someone I don't actually know before and I found it terribly hard. Terry is proving to be really difficult for many people and I found him impossible! The bit I enjoyed doing the best was Terry's suit jacket!

I have seen this portrait for real and it is even better than it looks here! It is a fantastic piece of work and I am so glad that you have decided to enter it Thea. The colours are just beautiful and vibrant and I have no doubt at all that Fiona and Terry will absolutely love it. Good luck!

do submit this - it is smashing!

Wonderful, your style is instantly recognizable, go for it!

Thank you so much for all your positive comments - it is so nice of you all. This is only the second art competition I have ever entered in my life - the first was the LP family portrait competition where my small grandson did a far better painting than I did, but we didn't come anywhere. Still, it is fun to take part and have a go.

Just found this Thea, don't know how I managed to miss it, it's absolutely super. The best yet as far as I'm concerned. Good luck in the competition.

Yes Robert....I agree ....... a bit extreme but keep 'em coming - you give us a chuckle and Lord knows we need a giggle with this one. I think I will gve up. I've seen two today that could be winners. This one (well done Thea) is one of them. Very clear and lucid watercolours. jx

Well done Thea. The portrait is gently done and light and airy. The sort of picture you would be happy to have on the wall. Like yourself I,ve had a go and it is not easy.

Thea.....Every comment here is more than justified, it is such a joyful portrait of two happy people, and it is truly lovely. You have a unique style, it's light and fresh and so gentle, keep em coming!! It was so enjoyable to meet you and see this, it is even better in the flesh! Jolly good luck with it. And thank you so much for looking at my stained glass.... Yes, Thursday evening was super and I enjoyed it greatly.

Love your portraits ... even the dog's. I agree with everyone about submitiing this for the competition.

I intended to paint a watercolour Terry and Fiona but ended up with a full pencil sketch. If I had I would have been delighted if it turned out as good as this. I'm glad you decided to enter it Thea

I think this entry is excellent and could win.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on my dreaded T & F portrait. So glad the entries have now closed so I can't be tempted to try another version.

Thank-you for your congratulations Thea, and congratulations to you too on reaching the top ten again, I'm not at all surprised!

I have said it before Thea - I love it.

Congratulations on your Top Ten of the Month, Thea. You really deserve it! Well done.

32 comments ! My goodness! You'll also be charging for autographs at this rate! Well done.

Lovely,delicate work,Thea!

Thank you all for your congrats about the Top Ten and also for your other very lovely comments.

Thank you for your congratulations, Thea, and congratulation to you too. I just come gack from a week-long trip to the desert to view the spring flowers and probably missed more than 50 pages of postings. This site has become so popular and I am having a difficult time to keep up with it...

Well we didn't make it into the top 6 Thea but we had a go and we did make it into most viewed, i still think yours is a Winner. love, angi x

Thanks Thea....i replied on my F&T portrait page by mistake.... angi

Hey Thea which competition was it? You did submit this into it didn't you because it is grat work, I mean look how how many comments you go on it!!

you have set me off again now Thea with your comment, was this a free reference photo or something! your comment makes it sound like you didn't actually know this couple and that several other people had trouble painting it as well

This was a photo put on POL of Terry Harrison and Fiona Peart on their wedding day. The idea was to paint their portraits and the best one would be presented to the happy couple. Satu actually won the competition with an abstract portrait of them.

Oh I see that explains it Thea, thanks so much for your lovely comment on my little boy at the beach watercolour, it felt quite good to do a watercolour after so long, thanks again xx

My second attempt (first one was pants and ended up in the bin). Found Terry really hard to get anywhere near a likeness, but this was the best I could do overall. Not sure if I am going to submit it into the competition as it is probably a bit dodgy.

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
