Paris springs to my mind and I think it's excellent.

Thank you Gudrun, appreciate you taking a look ! My first inspiration came from a photograph of Chicago, but personally I prefer Paris !

Absolutely love this Sharon. The paint effects just work so well despite the struggle. I know exactly what you mean when you say you 'attacked' it with clean water having just done that myself. Abstracts aren't easy are they but how rewarding they are when they go as well as this one has. There's that sense of achievement and satisfaction when painting in a different way. Quite exciting really! Looking forward to seeing more abstract work from you now :)

Where would we be without clean water, Louise !! Most valuable and cheapest bit of kit. Thanks for your reaction, I agree how liberating this kind of work can be, and even if the whole is not at all what one intended, there are always those precious "accidents" that fill you with wonder.

Yes it does do that but you can go back with acrylic or other. But you lose the beautiful watercolour quality which can't be beaten. TERRIFIC Sharon

Thanks Paul and Dennis, much appreciated. Just seen both your latest postings, two very different works but both fantastic. Make me want to give up !

I love it Sharon! I like the graphic lines and the colours glow through.

Beautiful composition, Sharon.

This caught my eye straight away. I think your "water attack" has worked pretty successfully, as the painting does have a lovely watery feel. Do you think that using acrylic washes over the first layer might have worked?

Thank you Carole, Cesare and Sandra for your kind feedback. I really only posted this as I'd promised to let know how my experiment worked out, so I'm really appreciative of these lovely comments. Sandra, I will have a go as you suggested...to be continued.

Has a certain charm that I don't particularly want to identify as anything/anywhere, sharon. With abstracts (which I know little of practically as I don't do them), I always mentally imagine them on a white wall. If they stand out, they work. This certainly does. The green is unusual in there, but that works too.

It's all a learning process Sharon and always great to experiment and not stagnate as we see all often on the gallery. Well done for persevering.

Thanks Jim, Alan and John for your thoughts.

I wonder if this had worked out exactly as you planned Sharon whether it would have been as interesting or had as much personality? I love it!

Too true Fiona, too much planning can be very inhibiting. Thanks for your lovely comment.

A semi-abstract experiment. I started with a first layer of acrylic ink, in an attempt to prevent the darker second layer in watercolour from disturbing the washes underneath and creating mud. With hindsight I realize I should have known better ; the acrylic ink created an impenetrable surface on the paper, which meant that the subsequent watercolour washes just lay there and dried up in unappetizing patches. We live and learn. Got so frustrated with it, I attacked it with a 2inch flat and clean water. Actually improved it somewhat ! Water colour and acrylic ink on Canson Montval 300gsm, 30x40cm
