Definitely worked Bob and I like it a lot ... maybe it's just me but it might benefit from just a hint of light on 2 fishing lines that could be added so they don't just appear to be holding poles? Hope you don't mind me saying that.

Lovely sense of place and movement.

Agree with Heather and the fishing line. Anyway a super painting and you have done very well with the acrylics.

Thank you for your comments...yes, perhaps a hint of light on lines from the rods would work. Pretty tricky to get right, if it was a watercolour, I'd scratch them in....I'll have to do some trial runs with different brushes to get the curves of the lines right...also to get a few breaks in the lines so it doesn't look too heavy and overworked...."Courage mon enfant!!!"

I've enjoyed looking at your all paintings Bob; this one is great too, I really like your style.

Yes, this worked very well Bob. Beautiful colours and so interesting to look at.

Super painting Bob, love the mood you’ve captured …..a real lazy summer day by the river.

Thank you Karen and Dympna. Rather than risk spoiling the painting, I imported the image into Photoshop Elements, and added the lines with the pencil tool…varying between 1 and 3 pixels wide…I don’t think it helped the composition in this case, even after trying different angles and curves of line and leaving gaps in the line…so I’m going to leave it as is. Always worth a try, and I don’t mind comments at all..they cause you to re-evaluate the painting. Thanks again everyone.

I really like this Bob. Personally I think that adding fishing lines would make it too fussy, as the reeds etc. are painted in a fairly impressionist style. Fishing line is a lot finer than reeds, so wouldn't really show on this scale.

The river Frome runs through the lovely historic town of Wareham in Dorset. This was a scene that I came across with my wife one summer. I thought I'd challenge myself by painting it in Gouache...such a different way of painting to watercolour. I think it's worked ??

About the Artist

I'm an amateur artist who started to paint in watercolours about 1990, when I found that the watercolours I admired in galleries were way beyond my price range. My thinking was that in time I might be able to produce paintings that I could hang on my wall at home, and be happy with. At the…
