I especially like the background wash and your middle ground with the statue. Your limited palette worked nicely.

Hi Bob, your gallery including this painting is wonderful. You wrote some lovely comments about my work, which I am very flattered by from such a competent artist. Apologies for not responding sooner but I have been on holiday. The answer to your question is I use high white 300lb rough Saunders and Waterford paper. A friend visited New York for a holiday, and I painted this view for her from one of her photos. I thought that she had a really good eye for a view. The colours used were mostly Cadmium yellow, Red and orange, Yellow ochre and Naples yellow. Plus Burnt Umber, Ultramarine and Cobalt blue. The photo didn't have masses of detail in the background, but I still simplified it.
