Boathouse on the Thames

I like it, especially the water. It's amazing what can be done with a few well-placed lines and squiggles.

The water really moves here Robert and I love that background building, looking so tired of life.

Thats a very nice sketch Robert. I think the tree is the star but the whole sketch would make a great painting.

Wonderful sketch Robert, I like all the scratches and scribbles.

It's very interesting art Robert. Especially I'm pricing it for being a refreshion from the past, that's still and probably forever in your mind 😊

The tree and the water really do it for me.

Nicely balanced sketch with a variety of elements

I like this too and agree with Bill

Really like this sketch Robert

I’m a big fan of pen and ink as well you know…I often use varying strengths of ink to act as my main tones, but you’ve achieved a similar effect using hatching and cross hatching - far more work of course! A decent result I’d say, apart from the tree growing from the boat, a minor issue, and I’m not overly keen on the very strong blue paper…

AB: Photographed a lot bluer than it is, I should have edited it a bit. Yes, I'd noticed the tree growing out of the boat: it doesn't/didn't, of course, but well - I sorta liked it like that, so made no effort to separate the two more effectively. I've always tended to use hatching/cross-hatching - I like the look of it, but it can look very mechanical if you're not careful: I think I'll have a go at the Bickley Approach next time I make an ink drawing: it MAY take less work than hatching, I'm not sure ... but I do find it more difficult to do.

Oh, getting caught up in the technicalities, forgot to say thank you to those who have commented on these two sketches.

I knew it wasn’t, I should have said appearing to grow out ….etc Yes, occasionally I’ve noticed even my white paper taking on a blue tinge…

Your playing with inks has yielded a lovely result Robert. I love the boat and the bullrushes. That water is so good. The more I look at it, the more I want to look at it!

Lovely sketch, Robert - especially the river!

Such a lovely scene Robert.

A4 pen and ink, Rotring Artpen plus Sailor Fude pen. From memory - a rather distant memory at that: I make a sketch and quick watercolour of this boathouse, and for some reason added a chimney, which it didn't have. I was about 14 at the time: the boathouse didn't look too healthy even then, so I doubt it's there now. I'm just playing with inks here, basically!
