Lovely, Robert. I like the heavy oil paint for the snow.

Terrific work Robert. The painting has real character..

Looks chilly, and because it has so much texture I want to touch it.

Nice one Robert. That snow looks cold and deep,Brrrr

Gorgeous result Robert. Interested in your method and palette too. Just so sorry about your weather!

Lovely texture, without the solvent. Just proves how it can be well done.

This 'without solvent' idea was a rather interesting experiment but has it worked?. Well yes, I think it probably has, and will work if you are painting thickly. Almost impasto on the foreground in this rather splendid example of a snow scene. I have several different styles when oil painting, latterly, I am working more plein-air and tend to paint thinner for various reasons (I can give those reasons if you want me to bore you). Anyway, a good example of what can be achieved Robert.

Just when it was all fading away happily into the past (what...3 weeks go??), and now it's back. It looks cold and a bit wet, just as I remember the horrible stuff, so...a great job there Robert. I love the great variety of colour in the snow. Not using oil much, does not using solvents mean this is still wet?

Great painting, love the way you have captured the snow 😀

Thank 'ee kindly. Lew - no: provided you're using Linseed oil, and in this case some lead white I had left, but plus Titanium, it takes no longer to dry than it would have done if I'd used solvent. I do wonder how the impasto in the foreground will bear up in the longer term - it'll be interesting to see if there's any yellowing, for instance.

I'd applaud the painting as well as the method Robert.

Oil on board, 16" by 12" - heavy snow in March of this year (sorry to remind you): the first time I've painted snow for a very long time, but the subject appealed. For fellow oil painters, I used no solvents in this painting, just a small amount of Linseed Oil. Why I haven't always done this, I don't know: I found no need for solvents at all (irrespective of what you might think of the painting, applaud the method....). Colours used - Cobalt blue, Mars Violet Deep, Olive Green (possibly unwisely), Indian Yellow, Mars Yellow. And several different whites.
