Good work Robert, I like the foreground and the gap in the fence taking us through the painting. Also, all the touches of white and do I detect the rat in there?

You certainly do. I either sign them, should a rat be otherwise out of its element, or include one in lieu of a signature.

Love the touches of light around the painting, lovely composition Robert.

I like it as it is Robert, especially the flecks of light

I can't see anything wrong with this Robert, I like it a lot, wouldn't have spotted the rat if Louise hadn't mentioned it but it's a clever, quirky touch!

Wonderful tree, chock full of character in it's knarled trunk and branches. I love all the littel flashes of white which lifts the painting with an injection of light. As Louise says, the gap in the fence is a marvellous touch as it makes sure the viewer looks beyond it into the background of the painting.

P.S. Just spotted the rat!!

I always admire Thea's way with words. She can explain so fluently what I also think, so Robert, I agree with her comment and all the others. This is again a 'Robert-Jones'-beauty. I also found the rat!!

Indeed, it has all been said. I nearly forgot about the "signature" ....

I like this, the way you have pulled it out of the gloom with those great highlights Robert.

Superb piece, Robert, love the variation of marks and the use of space. And the palette is lovely as well.

Robert, forgive me for contacting you in this manner but I wondered if you had heard from Alan Owen recently? I know he keeps in touch with you, as he does me too but I haven't heard anything from him for a couple of weeks, with no reply to my emails. I'm aware that he has been having a problems with his health recently. I have checked for any up to date video's on u-tube...nothing and also he hasn't posted on POL for a while either. I'm probably fretting over nothing but I'm concerned that his health has taken a downhill turn. I'm very fond of him, so would be gratefull for any news. Many thanks Robert.

Fiona - I've put a general note on the forum, because I had a bit of trouble logging in to reply to you via the gallery; I've worked it out now.... I can give a little more detail if you email me, but obviously I don't want to put it in a public place: I think he's just about worn out at the moment, if I can risk saying that much, with his debilitating illness. If I hear any more, I'll let you all know - he has a son and daughter, and I hope they'll be in touch if need be; but I'd so much rather hear from the lad himself!

Thank you very much for that Robert, I've just read your message on the forum also. I'll put him at the top of my prayer list. He has been an inspiration to me, not only through his constant help and support in watercolour, but his whole attitude to life. He's a treaure and I hope he will make a speedy recovery soon. I won't get in touch with him but if you have the chance to communicate with him at all, please pass on my very fondest regards and tell him we miss him dearly. Thanks again.

A difficult viewpoint brilliantly achieved and a lovely fresh feel to the painting. I really must visit the Isle of Wight - your paintings have rekindled my wish to go there.

Difficult, this one - 30 by 40cm, on canvas board; the path is pretty dark, but if painted like that I was concerned I'd get no colour in it..... I'll come back to this one and have another go, I think. a bit more contre-jour next time, maybe.
