I think this is successful at 7"x5", wished I could turn out stuff like this at such a small scale. I struggle at 10"x8". Looks like palette knife for the trunks then stippling, or short dabing strokes for folliage. best Mick

I really like the texture you have in this painting :-) for me, it is best viewed too if you stand back from the pc when the pic is in big mode to get the best viewing effect :-)

How wonderful to find three 'Roberts' on the gallery! You have managed to inject a real air of mystery into these paintings with the tangled and heavy undergrowth and the wonderful textures. You have also managed to inject so much light into the foliage which has made these paintings light and uplifting. Really impressed!

This is a stunner, Robert. I think it's pretty successful as is. It's a superb combination of texture, shapes and colors, with great atmosphere.

The last but one of my 7" by 5" box canvas paintings - allowed the foliage painting to dry before adding some tree structure; an experiment on a small scale which might have been more successful a bit bigger... but, worth doing for the learning.
