Well this has been a long time coming - a painting from you in the Gallery, Robert. Well worth the wait, full of light and a lovely touch - and ratty's back too.

Beautiful light in this. Just perfect.

I agree about the light, so well captured Robert. My initial thought would have been to darken the area on the L/H side quite a bit to give extra contrast, however, it is great as it is, ratty and all.

Such beautiful soft colours Robert.

Hello Ratty missed you! There's a beautiful softness about this Robert almost pastel shades, sky gorgeous it's very attractive.

That's beautiful Robert, lovely colours 😃

At first glance I thought it was a pastel, not that that matters. Bright, fresh, and full of sunlight. Excellent work, Robert.

Thank'ee kindly. Yes, greater contrast could have been achieved by making the left side much darker (Alan): this is one of the problems with working from a photograph - you think you've exaggerated the tonal differences, and in the context of the photo, you have; but by nowhere near as much as you would have done had you been on site; which in this case wasn't possible. But - there's always a next time!

Beautiful fresh colours, Robert. I’m assuming “ratty” that’s everyone is referring to, is the little creature on the bottom left hand side.

I too thought this was a pastel Robert, it looks so soft. Some beautiful colours in this gorgeous piece, so nice to see some of your work. May I ask the significance of Ratty?

There are times when I see a painting that makes me wish I was using oils. This is one of those times.

The significance of ratty is as follows: i) I used to keep rats; ii) I am very fond of rats; iii) rats are splendid things; iv) I sign a lot of my paintings with a rat - now, you will have noticed that I still haven't really explained why. And that's because - I'm blowed if I really know; it just seemed like a good idea at the time. And of course - wherever you are, other than in the middle of the Atlantic (and you can't be sure even then that the ship's hold isn't full of them) you're never far from a rat.

Love the light Robert a super painting.

You don’t post a painting very often Robert, but when you do, it’s a gudun! I agree the light is stunning.

Beautifully painted, the soft light tone show such beauty. ☺️

Wow! this is So Lovely!

It has the lightness, brightness and freshness of a watercolour. Good to see your painting on the Gallery Robert.

A fabulous sunlit and atmospheric piece, Robert.

Again, many thanks all. This would have been very different in acrylic - better or worse I wouldn't know; but it's interesting to compare one's own approaches, and that's why I work in three different painting media. Keeps me interested!

You've caught the mellow atmosphere of the season change Robert. Ratty looks very happy with his lot.
