A few bunnies racing up that hill? Your comments actually were my reaction on initially seeing this. Actually it is very peaceful. I feel the cliff face on the left , maybe should have something more interesting, textural foliage , maybe ?

Deeper sky...

Yup, good, ta - all useful! I agree with you, too - which is always a help!

Now, I really like the fact that there's not too much sky here. This makes for a more unusual composition. I also like the way that the whole image slopes to the left which is balanced out by the foliage in the foreground and the sharp angle of the footpath running up through the painting. It definitely works Robert in my opinion, the only thing I'm not happy about are the 3 birds. They are distracting and the painting doesn't need them. Also, I think that It would work well in a square format. Just an idea for you to conjure with!!.

It's excellent stuff Robert, don't need much sky, the little amount plays off the downward thrust of the cliff on the left and emphasises the movement in the pic. Perhaps a bit of bush foliage on the left of the hill to stop us falling out of the pic? best Mick

I like the foliage and the sunlight on the middle distance, but should the pathway where the figures are, be a bit wider as it is closer to us. I'm being picky! I think that it works well as it is! Feel free to critique my latest painting :) A lovely sense of calm comes off your painting Robert!

Interesting - I really thought this hadn't worked AT ALL: but feel inclined to have another bash at it now, taking these points on board. I've realized that my brother - who has a terrible problem with vertigo - wouldn't like this a bit; much too near the cliff-edge: Mick's remark about falling out of the picture particularly apposite here!

I did this as a study for another painting - perhaps an oil. I'm not at all sure it's going to work - this is around quarter Imperial size, on Bockingford, a mix of watercolour, acrylic, ink, and coloured pencil - plus anything else I could find to throw at it. There's an awful lot of ground and not much sky, for one thing... Any thoughts?
