Scary - again, Robert!! I'm definitely NOT coming to visit!

It does have the look of a house shrouded in mystery where a crusty old chap lives with a few bats (or rats) for company. Not that I am suggesting that you are a crusty old chap for a second, perish the thought - just my way on picking up on the atmosphere of the painting. Wonderfully eccentric image.

The site really is playing silly buggers with text - that should have read conte crayon (with an acute accent over the e). So we can't use quotation marks, can't use accents - Dawn, come and stay in my creepy house.......You can have the room with the vulture...... Mwahahaaha.....

OOOer! Robert! You have definitely caught a creepy atmosphere with this, but once you look beyond the spiky trees, the house looks solid and inviting....... I think that there should be a ghost or two living there !

You wouldn't have to snarl, the house does it for you.. strong image, great foreground, monochrome works for impact.

I like it Robert....I could live there too; bats, rats and crusty old gents an all!!

Love it Robert, but I think I will give my visit a miss.

You could charge for scary ghost visits to see if anyone can endure a whole night in there! Not many I guess. To get a accent I think you could hold down the alt key as you type the letter Conté

Oh bugger it doesn.t work you are right :o))

Looks even spooker with this palette, Robert! Brooding and imposing, well painted, but like Karyl, I'll give it a miss too!

Conté avec accent aigu! I found it Robert ! What I haven't found is the first dream house! Number two is quite spooky but this one definitely scares me. Ghosts everywhere and skeletons in the garden! Very skilfully interpreted !

Satu - take a look in the Other Places folder and you'll find Dream House ... it's got steadily more grim as I've progressed, although someone thought the oil one looked quite cheerful: damn! I should have painted it in greys as I'd intended in the first place. Can't get the accent aigu - something to do with the coding embedded in the site, and html - but I have no idea whatsoever how to get round the problem.

We used not to have a problem with punctuation. Annoying. This painting scares. It does the job. Creepy, which I am assuming is what you were aiming for.

I found the first one! Much friendlier than the two others. There is still some life in the house and in the trees but still I wouldn't go in. There is something menacing in the air..... You have managed to create a growing suspension in these three paintings and that is remarkable. I'm writing this with my iPad and I found the accent aigu within the French keyboard. I have to press the e and the accent at the same time for it to work.

Love it! Our house looked much like this when we bought it ! - it had been unlived in for about 10 years! There were bats n all and they still live in the garden. It has such character and mystery!

I find it very interesting that this black and white study attracted more comments than the full-colour versions...... I wonder quite what to make of that; much food for thought! I think also that there are many old buildings like this, sinister, tucked away behind hedges and trees, empty - there are several within a few miles of me. But they could be reclaimed, brought back to life, make great family homes - all this sinister stuff is really just a lot of hooey: anything can look sinister if you paint it or imagine it that way, and anything will look lonely and neglected if, basically, it is! Save these old buildings rather than buying up the land, tearing down the old house, and replacing it with ghastly modern constructions. And I say this acknowledging that this isn't even a real house, just something I dreamt.

I love this house. I also like your drawing of it. Great atmosphere and really makes the viewers imagination run riot.

Make me a reasonable offer, Dawn, and the deeds (sadly fictional) can be yours. The ghosts come as optional extras...... Boo.

Perhaps my last version - and then again, perhaps not.... A4 size in a combination of conté crayon, carbon pencil, and Chromacolour Paynes Grey and White. I'm rather drawn to this house: I think I'd like to live in it, seeing off all visitors with a snarl apart from those I invite inside, never to be seen again....
