Val, LOVE this! You've captured their inquisitive and slightly impudent look perfectly. I'm no expert in colored pencils, but it looks perfect to me!

Lovely pencil drawing, made me smile. I don't know why lines in background are a problem - it looks fine. Also thank you for comments on my "tulips" oil painting.

Val --I do not see any problems with this work -- in fact its wonderful --- I am not an expert on pencils-but insted of using the point of pencil and giving your lines try using the side of the pencil, a more even coverage

Val, I've never ever used coloured pencils so this might be a really stupid question, but would it be possible to paint over the background and darken it if you're not happy with it? This is why so many of my paintings end up with really dark backgrounds, but here it would really make those lovely giraffes stand out. Their markings are superb! If you like this idea, you should leave the white edge visible around the giraffes. This is what I'd do and therefore would probably be a disaster. Also, I'm not sure if it's possible to paint over coloured pencil. Just an idea :)

Love it, your painting has cheered up a rainy evening for me!

I have tried coloured pencils from time to time but have never really mastered them - but there is nothing wrong here- a good fun picture

Very well done Val, so cute. Hope your arm gets better soon!!!LOL

I was so busy looking at thier cheeky faces to notice the background I think you are worrying about nothing. It looks fine to me.

I think this is great as it is Val - I really like the background - the yellow is eyecatching and the giraffes themselves are so well drawn in such a special pose.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments and helpful tips, which are very much appreciated.

Lots of fun - I like this. The chappy hiding brings a smile !

This is so cute Val! Tried to leave a comment on AF but won't let me login at the moment!

Thank you Avril and Debs. Debs, I know what you mean. I tried last night and again this morning but the web page doesn't seem to be available at the moment, lets hope they are working on it!

Peekaboo...it's me, I'm glad I had the time to checkout an old friend. I like what I see.

Coloured pencil on bristol board. I haven't had much time for painting recently so I've been playing around with my coloured pencils again which I can pick up and put down whenever I've got a spare minute. I've blended and burnished this 'til my arm ached but I can't seem to get rid of the lines in the background, wish I'd left it plain now LOL. Any tips on what I'm doing wrong and how to improve gratefully received.
