Gorgeous pastel Marjorie, I particularly love the shadowed areas on the bowl and orange. I cropped that central area down to the shadows…..fabulous abstracted shapes. There is a brilliant exhibition on at Edinburghs National Marjorie, ‘A Taste for Impressionism’ it’s on until 6th November. Some super pastels of Degas.

It has worked really effectively, Marjorie. The textures on the salt glazed pot, the stippling on the pithy skin of the orange and the cotton fabric of the tablecloth are all skilfully rendered!

Thanks a lot everyone. Although I paint lots of different topics I think that Still Life is my favourite. Will try and go Fiona, thanks for the info.

I did comment ages ago Marjorie but can’t see it here. Love the gentle light and the different textures of the bowl, orange and fabric. The beauty of still life is that we can choose objects we love to paint. I think that love transcends through this painting so well.
