Superb Marjorie and beautifully painted. A very difficult challenge well met .

That is very good, Marjorie! Quite a significant marker at the top of Grey Street!

Nice one Marjorie! Out of your comfort zone but a good outcome…

David, you’re thinking of Earl Grey….this is at the top of Northumberland Street, near the Civic Centre. Thank you Paul, David and Alan.

Beautiful painting Marjorie and well painted.

Absolutely beautiful Marjorie. Such a detailed and complicated piece.

A tremendous painting indeed Marjorie so beautifully done.

Challenge well met Marjorie, love the simple colour palette too

That’s quite a challenge Marjorie, this kind of scene would terrify me but it’s something I want to try. I really like the way you have simplified what could have turned out to be a fussy townscape ….hinting at windows, chimneys and the roof line. The splendour is Nike silhouetted against the sky with what appears to be a halo of light.

It has come out really well. The monument overlooking the scene really makes it.

This is wonderful Marjorie. I love your restrained palette and how you have painted it without frills or fuss. Fantastic work.

Many thanks Stephen, Spencer, Chris and Heather. The difficult bit was to try and keep it uncomplicated - hard for me because detail creeps in! Fiona, I kept going back and “ breaking it” to eliminate the detail. Berwick would be a good choice for you Fiona. Thanks David, the monument was the star. And thanks Carole - you’ll know the scene very well.

Thanks Brian. I’m up for trying another one now!

Great Marjorie! Lovely use of colour.

Difficult viewpoint really well painted.

It’s a terrific painting Marjorie, complex and challenging but I think you’ve achieved something special here.

Quite a difficult viewpoint Marjorie. Great.

I thought we lost the Boer Wars. My great grandfather took part as a bombadier, whilst his wife travelled with him dropping babies in Mauritius, 2 in Cape Town and a couple more in Guernsey! Beautiful painting though. Well captured!

No Linda we won ( I wasn’t around at the time). Thanks for commenting Guy, Christine, Tessa, Val- Irene and Linda.

There’s a lot in this Marjorie. Phenomenal effort

Thank you both🙂 - Martin and Coral.

Oil on linen board. A bit of a challenge for me ant what I find easy. The Monument in the Haymarket commemorates the victory in South Africa during the Boer War. The “angel” is Nike, goddess of victory. At the base of the monument is a commemoration to the Northumbrians who died fighting.
