I prefer your still lifes when they are more simple and contain fewer elements. I think that this works well from a high view point but also tonally and better for cropping the plate.

Thanks for that Roger. Constructive crit is valuable and I agree with what you said. I wouldn't normally put in as much as say in "a slice of Life" - it looks abit dated more than anything else. It's for a club project and time was short . (It also had to be in long, narrow format which was difficult). My next painting(this morning, when I finally get down to it) is another Still Life, but with three things. We'll see what happens.

Hi Marjorie...thank you for the comment and humour on last painting...that's rare but very welcome. You asked about planning a painting so briefly to avoid boring you...full scale study on paper of room..structure, perspective etc, transfer to canvas which I make...start painting! Basia, artefacts and detail come last. It was years before realizing that I drew 'sight size' so canvases are quite large, I think that they feel as if they could be entered. Had enough? Last thing..I paint from life but B doesn't enjoy posing so I made a torso of her proportions, padded and clothed. Anyway, who needs a live model when garlic is the obvious substitute? Look forward to seeing more of your work , your subtle and gentle perception. Regards R
