I think this is amazing! The apples are so realistic good enough to eat.

I never tinker anymore, I just do another one! However, this works in terms of colour. I'm not sure how oil will fare on top of varnish though.

I painted over the area in question with a quick drying medium(which also contains varnish) before painting in oil. This has the effect of adhering the oil paint to the surface, rather like "oiling out" before you start re painting. It seems to have worked anyway.

I do like this better, Marjorie - it provides a more effective backdrop for the apples. Great choice of color!
