This is a 1961 EMD 9A passenger locomotive, leased to Amtrak in 1974 and operated by them for the remainder of it's working life. the faded colours it retains are those of the Amtrak company. It now remains resting on a piece of abandoned track in Louisiana, USA awaiting hopefully for restoration. This leviathan of the rails still impresses even in this sad condition with the rust making its presence increasingly felt. I have entitled this painting the 'Sleeping Giant' which I feel is appropriate.
