Just fantastic Lew! Wonderful background of characters, the man himself ( at first glance I thought was Tom Jones!) a larger than life character. Love how you achieved his leather jerkin. I’m changing my mind about the Shakespeare man he looks quite dishy!

Fantastic piece of work although my impression of Shakespeare is biased by Upstart Crow & David Mitchell.

Absolutely marvelous Lewis. Your take on Shakespeare is brilliant and yes the English language would be less rich and certainly poorer without his presence even today. Love the Dashing Shakespeare.

I think your interpretation is spot on!

Another fascinating painting Lewis, so much to look at time and time again. It’s just like the story Shakespeare himself. Thanks for adding the dimensions of the picture, it’s hard to Imagine sitting down with a piece of paper that big.

Thank you Carole, Stephen, Chris, Heather, and Alan. Your comments are much appreciated. These days Alan, I'm finding I need to work on a larger scale, my hands won't let me do the small stuff.

A brilliant portrait of the man himself and all those wonderful characters he created. I often wonder about some of the people in history , were they really so serious all the time, did they let their hair down , what made them laugh etc. There seems to be a trend at the moment of changing history or rewriting it to suit modern thought , I digress. Your art work is as always outstanding Lew , what you think of shelving , would be my best efforts.

Glad you did not loose the puffer pants, Lew! Wonderful celebration of his work!

Just marvellous Lewis and I do think you must have it spot on. I'm always bedazzled by a bit of Shakespeare.

Wow Lew, not only can you make us all smile, you also make us think. Great work.

Shakespeare was the bane of many a child's schooldays I'm sure Lewis, but I always thought myself lucky in that Macbeth was the book I had to study for o level and it captured my imagination from the onset. I love how you've portrayed him in his younger days and the scenes in the background are absolutely wonderful.

Great to see a younger Shakespeare rather than the older version we usually see Lewis. Great characters in the background too. I always found his plays much more real and entertaining in the theatre rather than just reading them in a classroom.

Brilliant stuff Lew. Like Father Christmas and religion, we believe what we want to believe. Belief without proof is the enemy of science, ( Shakespeare didn't say that, I did) but thankfully, we ain't all scientists..(-:

Absolutely Superb Lewis, Will himself, the background characters and your Shakespeare interpretation. Also I am influenced by the Upstart Crow !

I just think your work is incredible. Funny, clever and fab drawings. Really like the way you have painted the blue background. Very well painted. Superstar. Who knows you could be famous soon ☺

First look I imagined a light-skinned Othello Lew, but then again it, might be a younger you. Either way, it's brilliant. (-:

I think William himself would be a great fan of yours Lewis, you can tell a tale or two through your paintings.

Great stuff Lewis. Such well drawn characters. I never knew that there wasn't ever a written description of him or that it's said by some that paintings of him actually aren't. All very interesting and my goodness, your Shakespeare is extremely good looking :) An interesting read here and great work from you!

Thanks again for your marvellously encouraging comments. We didn't do Shakespeare for our 'O' levels, Russell. There was a little of him, until the set subject for our Eng Lit was announced as Dickens...then we concentrated on him. As I said, I'm no expert Louise. This is what I've recently read. Shakespeare is much studied by historians and writers but their findings and theories seem to make him even more enigmatic.

That really great. I think you have captured a probable character perfectly. Certainly this is the way I would like to think of him enjoying success.

This is a captivating and brilliant piece of work Lew! Love the description, it makes us think, and love your interpretation of the man.

What a fantastic piece - so much to see, and all the familiar characters brought to life! Fabulous work, Lewis!

Super drawing once again Lew, I do like that background also!

Another wee beaut Lewis - a real eye catcher colour combination. Can fair smell that leather - at least I hope that is what it is - they used some basic materials in those days to produce it. Off for my Bacon now.

Absolutely brilliant drawing ! Love the background

I'm no Shakespeare expert, I've been reading about him. All the uncertainty about him and what he did makes him even more interesting. So this is a fantasy. Very uncertain about this...nearly put it on the back burner. But I've been doing too much of that, so I finished it. Still not sure. Hope you can read the text. Background, four scenes from his plays, is in coloured pencil. The man himself is a mix of watercolour and coloured pencil...at the moment, my 'go to' choice of medium.

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
