Stunning eyes Kim, this is a super watercolour portrait, you really are excellent at capturing people in the medium, plenty of gravitas to this one as well

Brilliant watercolour.

Marvellous facial expression and great colours.

Love the ice blue eyes - just how you'd expect a Norwegian Hero to look!

I have no aversion to more heroes if the paintings carry on at this excellent quality.

Excellent expression, wonderful piercing blue eyes Kim.

Great face expression and light into his blue eyes.

The eyes absolutely make this portrait - they are utterly compelling and full of very focused passion. What a wonderful talent you have to be able to convey this so skillfully.

Perhaps I've inflected his single-mindedness into something slightly manic. But no matter! I'm glad you all like Nansen. You can visit his revolutionary ship Fram (=forward) in Oslo - I think it's by the Viking ships and Kon-Tiki. Anyway, I'm grateful for your find remarks. Now I'll do polar penance...

Superb Kim. Your use of blue is brilliant ..... just like polar ice !

Another stunning piece, Kim - I love the way you captured the intensity of his gaze and the very light but effective use of washes to impart vibrancy and life to the portrait.

As you may have gathered, I've been browsing a collection of sepia photos of polar explorers. Such astonishing men... I'll not inflict more on you after this one - one of my Dad's compatriots and heroes: Fridtjof Nansen (1861-1930). Explorer, scientist, author, diplomat, humanitarian and Nobel Prize laureate, surely Norway's most illustrious son.
