Teriffic portrait, although on first glance I thought it was Mussolini!!

Impressive portrait - very well done, I like the colours too

Lovely confident portrait Kim. Like the colours and the strong light across the face....something I shall be hoping to achieve in my next effort.

Also one of my favourite composers - wish it was only a year our lives overlapped but heigh ho! And this is such a really accomplished watercolour - really top notch Kim

Thanks Michael, Paul, Jane and Fred for taking the time to peep and comment. Really appreciated. I take your point about Mussolini Fred, but whereas Sibelius actually looked like a wrathful nordic deity, pathetic Benito merely tried - and failed, looking merely histrionic.

Quite awsome ! Your portrait's are so full of character and painted with such confidence. Wonderful colours .

Being a Finn, I recognized Sibelius immediately and I'm very impressed by your portrait. It is very, very good and done with watercolours!! I must tell you that I have visited his home, Ainola, near Helsinki. A delightful wooden house in a beautiful spot where he was able to compose in peace. Great man and you can be very proud of his portrait.

Another super portrait, Kim. You're as proficient in this as you are with mountains! I especially like the tonal variation of this piece.

Sibelius seldom smiled. He could hardly be accused of being cuddly - craggy-monumental was more his thing. Like his music, of which I'm passionately fond. He was man of principle too: after composing his 7th Symphony and "Tapiola" in 1924 and 1926 respectively, he felt that his artistic vein had dried up and wrote no more. For the last 31 years of his life. For some absurd reason it gives me pleasure to think that I was alive while he still walked the earth - we overlap by just a year... This is how I see him (whilst listening to his 4th Symphony!). W&N on Fabriano Artistico, 30x40 cm.
