Wow! What atmosphere here - lovely colours and that storm cloud! Have witnessed many of these storms, often in August, on the north of Lago Maggiore.

Striking work - an almost eerie light pervades the entire piece, promising something pretty horrible to all below. An object lesson in what can be achieved with very limited palette.

Just had to say I love this work it has a energy and a powerful magnetic pull you have captured the light so well and although you say the original was not quite as yellow I think you may have just given mother nature a run for her money. Well done

Very effective, lots of atmosphere. Love it.

Lovely work Kim, I feel the light of the water makes this painting just as much as the dramatic sky. Works very well!

Wonderful painting, the sky is exceptionally good.

Thanks to you all for these compliments. I'd really only decided to use up the browns left over on the plate from the Arera painting. The sky was a stroke of good fortune: I dropped Neutral Tint (which I normally hate) onto a Naples Yellow wash and this great sinister curtain of cloud swirled across the paper! I simply discouraged it from completely obscuring the lake and mountain behind. Do try to visit the Pian di Spagna wetlands depicted here. They're protected under the Ramsar Treaty and therefore still resisting (just) the incursions of Italian JCB diggers. The birdlife is amazing and there are even reports of otter sightings.

I'm bowled over by this painting, spectacular, fullfilling, very satisfying. Thank you

The sky reminds me of a Turner - very powerful image.

Very effective. Nice one.

Really stunning painting, I love paintings with limited pallet, its magnificent.

Wow this painting has been a real success which it fully deserves. Thanks for comment and advice on my picture, I've taken heed and darkened the shadows plus "dirtying" the wall. Regards Avril.

A storm over the northern tip of Lake Como. The original is a tad less yellow than this.
