Oil on Gessoed/Marbled Plywood, 39.5 x 64.5 cm, Studio painting based upon 3 on-site oil sketches. View of the Rosenlaui massif with the Welhorn in the middle, the Wetterhorn at the right and the Rosenlaui glacier on the left. The village of Rosenlaui is 600 m further through the gap in the trees. This valley was a popular tourist attraction, part of the Grande Tour of Victorian alpinists and travellers. Few alpine scenes can match this one for the sheer scale between the lofty peaks and the flat plateaux from which I first set up my easel in September 2015. Signed lower RHC.
