Reds: Tornado sequence

Reds - Tornado formation

Caught this really excellently. Thanks for posting it.

Superb painting of the Reds in action. Even after seeming them many times in still enthralled by them.

Thanks for your feedback. Their smoke trails offer exciting patterns to work with; plus they are amazing to watch.

Being pedantic, they're Hawks , not Tornados!

Hi Trevor. Yes, you are absolutely right, the Red Arrows do fly Hawk aircraft, but the team give names to each of the individual formations within their display routine. Some are called 'Concorde', 'Diamond Nine' etc and this one was in tribute to the Tornado aircraft that was approaching its retirement from RAF service.

Impressive!"

Ah - brings back memories of wonderful air displays I used to go to. The Reds are my heroes! Wonderful painting!

Inspired by the Red Arrows display at the RAF100 Aerospace Camp, RAF Syerston, Nottinghamshire in August 2018, I painted this when I returned home. It had been a long time since I had seen one of their full displays, so was fascinated by how the light during the overcast afternoon affected the colour of the smoke during their ‘Tornado’ sequence.
