Maggie is a dear friend of mine/step mother and following a trip to Scotland, she kindly shared a photograph of this beautiful stag with me. The stag turned around and looked at Maggie square on in the eyes and with a calm but strong presence which I aimed to put across on this portrait. This was created using coloured pencils and pastels on a water-soluble underpainting. I created the original painting as a gift for Maggie which is now proudly displayed on her living room wall. :)
