Did you paint this entirely wet-in-wet, then, or was there time to let the stages dry? I get into trouble painting alla prima, because I don't really plan the painting properly - so it would be easier to leave areas just indicated with turpsy washes and then go over them with the thicker paint; but = well, I don't, usually; and it can take me weeks to finish even a quite small painting in consequence. Not complaining, mind: that's how I like to work; but you seem to have the more spontaneous approach. Anyway! After all that - I like this painting, for its warmth, light, and feeling of space.

Hi Robert, yes this was painted pretty much alla prima, nothing left to dry, although I did finish it off this morning (some of the flowers on the right) while it was tacky-ish. The character walking was left to pretty much the end. As I mentioned, having painted the pochade, which was still fresh in mind the planning and the putting-together of this one in the studio was a doddle as I could remember the do's and don'ts from the field sketch. Cheers for your comments.

WS Oil on Board 14" x 10". Painted from one of my pochades from last week when it was a bit better weather than yesterday (7th July). The path is the Ribble Way at Horton, it was painted fairly rapidly, pretty much all in one day through several sittings (interruptions to take the kids swimming, make tea etc.). In the past I have only painted oils from either watercolour or pencil / pen sketches, this is the first time I have used one of my pochades to create a finalised painting, I have learned a lesson here, because I am using the same medium as my 'sketch', the techniques are the same, therefore there is no uncertainty as to what I am doing, and overall the painting is faster and more of a positive experience.
