Gannets everywhere

Gannets everywhere

An excellent piece of work - quite agree with you about canvas, there is no substitute, whether using oil or acrylic, in terms of the sheer pleasure it gives to paint on it, its responsiveness to the paint, the way its natural spring actually contributes to the brush stroke. And in purely practical terms, at this sort of size it's so much lighter to handle and hang.. No small matter if you're planning to sell it: I still have nightmares about a large-ish picture I sold on rather heavy MDF, worrying if it's pulled the plaster off the wall yet.

I can almost hear the gannets shrieking and waves crashing - you have captured a bird filled cliff setting perfectly.

Oil on canvas 36" x 24". My first 'biggie' on canvas. The scene is the lighthouse at Bass Rock, shrouded in gannets. I have enjoyed every minute of painting this one, still waiting on the easel to dry. Now I need a wall big enough to hang it! Using canvas has been a revelation, I liked the feel of the canvas material - more so than the canvas boards I have only used before.
