Rope Swing - Windermere

I love that you're pushing your boundaries, Ian, and love this painting. It speaks of a carefree day by the lake, with a suggestion of barbies and beer. Probably not true but you can see where my heart is. The palette works very well, as do the reflections and light. Lovely yachts and great foreground tree. I like it all, actually. Bri

Love it :)

Oil on MRF panel 10" x 6": End of school term party up the road on the shores of Windermere, a number of canoes, paddleboards, inflatable fruit etc were assembled on one of the beaches for a wee bash after term had finished. This was painted purely from a watercolour sketch made on the scene and (unlike me) no photographic reference. I wasn't originally going to paint this, but having thought about the subjet and composition afterwards decided it would make a nice memento of the day, and I have tried to keep it on with the original watercolour sketch. Although I was kicking myself not to have taken a photo of the scene, it was refreshing to paint without and simplification of the scene was easier as I had already done this onerous task by means of the sketch. Once again I am pushing the boundaries of my capabilities and getting away from my comfort zone which I think is important for me to progress.
