Two Roses in a Jar

Comments

What seem to make this piece work for me is the small green highlight at the bottom of the jar. It’s like a trigger Gary.

I like the warm grey background, harmonises well with the main subject.

Lovely Gary. You've done very well.

The warm colours and highlights are lovely.

A lovely painting Gary, John makes a good point about the little touch of brighter green in the jar. Also I like the few dropped leaves and petal. Little details like that make a good painting.

Lovely still-life painting Gary for these Roses and sturdy glass vase, amazing detail of stalks and reflected light beneath, superb!

Wow thank you all for such lovely comments. It's really great seeing that you picked up on some of the things that I was thinking about. The green highlight in the bottom of the jar was really strong and I really liked it so had to include it. Originally there was no petal or leaf on the surface and it looked wrong so I added them in - nice to know I made a good choice. By the way, the jar originally had gherkins in from the supermarket but it was such a nice jar I decided it would look good as a vase :-)

It's a stunner and I agree with John too

A very good painting – even though, I don't like roses! Good colour choices.

Thank you Heather and Trevor for your lovely comments too.

Love that deep pink and the colour harmony you have here Gary. Wondered if you've seen Sophie M Cook's paintings of roses, or Carmela Brennan's - might be of interest for you.

Nearly missed this exquisite painting. There is a lovely, harmony of colour throughout Gary.lovelt little touches which enhance the beauty of the painting.

Thank you for the new comments. Hilary - I hadn't seen those artists work but I have now :-) Thank you for letting me know about them - really lovely work.

Superb painting - and love the "vase"!

20 x25 cm. Oil painting from still life setup on Ampersand Gesso board. Wow, gesso boards are very slippy aren't they! A bit of a challenge painting wet into wet compared to primed canvas but I think I like the effect - especially for the block in layer. Also experimented with using Oleogel as a medium for following layers.
