Hayricks at High Ham. by George Cutter

Date should read 1980's.

A kind of personal historic document, painted with your usual excellent skills. I’m impressed you still have sketches from the 80’s, I have a few paintings but most of my sketches were binned. But mine would have had less historic value and I mostly drew people. I always seemed to be a decade behind…I was still wearing bell bottomed trousers in the early 80’s.

Love it, super memories and wonderful colour palette

This is so impactful George. Your brush strokes are so fluid and natural and the palette is wonderful.

Thank you very much Lewis, Heather and Carole. This one particular farmer used to make 2 hayricks every year. He was the only one I knew who did at this time. I've kept nearly every sketch book I've filled since 1981, they've been to Australia (for 4 years) and back to England and finally to Mid Wales.

Love your style

Like this a lot George , super painting.

Thank you very much David, Valerie and Stephen.

Great painting George.

Wonderful nostalgic record and painting George.

I do so like the colouring in this piece George, very effective.

They were still making these in the west of the Isle of Wight (and probably elsewhere) in the late 50s into the early 60s - this is an historic record now: somewhere or other, I have old photos of the area around Freshwater, IW, with the farm labourers, their pitchforks, pipes, ale, trousers done up with string at the knees, to stop any rats, and greasy old waistcoats and caps, forking the hay onto the ricks and carts. All very different now.

A blast from the past, very loose and atmospheric.

I remember them well, skilfully constructed to withstand the weather! Nice work as always George…

Thank you all very much for your interesting comments
