Beautiful pastel George,

George I thought this was in oils when I first viewed it, excellent pastel work.

Beautiful pastel work, George.

I wish I could do a pastel like that. Lovely painting.

Wonderful pastel,my favourite medium.

That's amazing George. What pastels do you use and how do you get such fine detail with them?

A very accomplished pastel painting George.

I thought it was oil, too, George. Lovely delicate detail on the foliage.

Thank You all very much for taking a look and commenting. I've been using pastels since 1981 and gradually developed this way of using them. I very seldom blend the pastels by rubbing in, I get the effect I want by putting layer upon layer of marks made with varying makes of pastel one on top of the other, allowing the pastels to do the actual blending if needed. This takes longer but I like the effect. I usually start with Rowney then on to Sennelier and finish with Unison. ( from hardest to softest). I find there are always edges on the pastels to make fine marks and lines so I never sharpen them. My favourite support is Daler w/c board but also use Canson and other makes of pastel card and paper. Hope this helps.

Stunning and subtle painting

Many thanks Thalia.
