No it's not messy Carole. But more detail and I think it would really shine. Well that's my view.

There's an article in The Artist this month about resurrecting messy work, but it doesn't apply to this. I think it's smashing.

It's excellent work overall Carole. A few spiky rushes foreground bottom edge should make it perfect.

Lovely painting

Lovely Carole, at first I thought a stronger yellow would give the lift you want but now I am not sure. Probably best to leave well alone as it is a beautiful painting.

Like it - I like messy!

PS - I wouldn't add anything further to it: you have enough features in the different textures, add more detail and you'll be in danger of crowding it. You can always do more versions, after all.

Lovely atmosphere, Carole. (Maybe the faint silhouette of perhaps a deer in the white space at the bottom would add interest if you feel it needs something extra, or an owl in flight?)
