I like it a lot with the sky left white.

A very impressive drawing Fiona. Some perfect colours for portraying decaying metal and brickwork. A perfect sky left blank, it's not necessary, so well done on leaving it - so unlike you!.

Yes it's good as it is Fiona, so desolate.

I was going to say and agree with Alan about the sky Fiona. A good sense of solid structure and colour selection.

Really love this Fiona. Very atmospheric.

Very good. Perfect with the white sky, which adds to the atmosphere I think.

Very impressive work Fiona, I can see there is a lot of great detail there. I love the pen and ink work in this and you have really strong colours. 😀

Really like your choice of colours and the light details with the ink pen, the blast engine house stands out against the white sky, very good, Fiona.

A fabulous pen and watercolour depicting rust and decay.....wow.

This takes me back to my childhood Fiona, in Industrial Lancashire , very evocative.

Perfect just the way it is.

Thank you Ibolya! I know Alan, I was tempted......but didn’t give in under the pressure! Thanks you. Thanks Carole. John thank you, I tried to make it look mucky without making it look muddy, my usual earthy palette did fine. Seth, Tony many thanks, the sky wasn’t far off this colour as we had snow showers most of the day on Easter Sunday. Linda, Annick, Ellen, Sylvia....thank you ladies for your input, much appreciated. I know it isn’t pretty but I love subjects like this, as you know.

Thank you very much David! My drawing isn’t up to your standard, unlike yourself I don’t practice enough.

You have caught the decaying grandeur of the furnace so well.

I love this Fiona, what a fascinating building. My husband (an architectural photographer) would have a field day!!

Interesting historically and well drawn Fiona. Nice work.

I Really like this Fiona, very interesting.

Oooh, I do like this one Fiona. The pen drawing is excellent and you've certainly conveyed the idea of crumbling stone and rust!

It's a wow from me Fiona...think it one of your best ...conveys sooo much atmosphere as well as good observation...oooer hark at me!!!

The stark desolation is well caught indeed.

Nice work, Fiona. You've got the neglect and decay. Oddly 'old buildings' is the subject at our art group this afternoon, I'll be chuffed if I do as well as this.

This is lovely Fiona. It's very difficult sometimes to leave the backdrop white but definitely right decision.

Fiona this looks wonderful, the desolation of the place really shows through in your work.

It's terrific! Great idea to leave the sky, gives so much atmosphere

This is very impressive Fiona and I too think the sky having been left white is the right thing -it seems to accentuate the boldness & strength of the building.

Thank you very much everyone for your positive feedback ref the sky....so glad I left it well alone. Thanks!

Wonderfully caught, Fiona.

Thank you Cesare!

A beautifully constructed composition, Fiona! The choice of colours is perfect as they so well represent the ageing decay of the buildings. The absence of colour in the sky from my POV helps to place the buildings in sharp relief as well as keeping them the centre of attention.

Thank you very much Wib, glad I left the sky well alone. It did resemble this colour to be honest because we were having snow showers at the time.

12” x9” pen and watercolour on Arches. Another glimpse into the past from a visit to the site of Dunaskin iron works, on a cold snowy afternoon. I haven’t put any colour in the sky, not sure if that’s the right decision or not but wanted to concentrate on the decay, age and crumbling dirty stone and brick....not to mention rust!
