this is more like it better than those dragons and horrors .Love your graphic work Fiona the large bush on the left and the foreground are perfectly placed as a frame for the castle the overall is bathed in light, lovely

Lovely ....Your dragon would look right at home living in that fairytale castle...lol...

Lovely painting, Fiona.

A super art work Fiona, lovely.

Good colour and I do like the shapes formed by those leaves top left. Just need a dragon and an abstract version. LOL

You are kind to me David, thank you X You're right Kirstie it would, and so would the ghouls too I think! Thank you for your comment. Many thanks Cesare, Margaret for your encouragement. Do you think I should have done the castle, especially near the tree on the left paler, there isn't much counter change between the two. It was actually in deep shadow, almost black but I didn't want to deaden that half of the picture by doing it too dark. Hence the reason for leaving it much lighter bottom left.

Crispy, colourful, calculated marks skilfully executed resulting in another stunning work Fiona. If I were the Maxwell I would invade your land in Galloway, take you hostage, imprison you in my castle and make you the artist in residence.

Oh NO you don't Louise, you're always getting me into bother.......I'll think about it...lol I've just seen the weather forecast for west Galloway and it's going rain, just for a change.....so an abstract challenge might come in handy! Thank you! Mick, as long as you didn't set too higher hostage demand, ten bob and a couple of rabbits should do it! I've seen a flaw in your plan though, don't you have to be able to paint to be an artist in residence?lol Thank you for your lovely comment!

Are you going through a blue frase Fiona. Lol. I like the castle with the light catching the round form.

This is lovely Fiona....

A great composition, lovely pen work again. I especially like the cut of light down the castle, a lovely palette Fiona.

Again a beautiful, typical "Fiona"-painting. I love your style, Fiona, well done!

Lovely fresh and lively work Fiona, tonal values could be a little darker in places but a damned good effort.

Your palette is first class on this piece Fiona. Coupled with a spare style it is truly smashing.

Yes John I'm going through my 'blue period'......lol Thank you for your comment, and thanks also Dennis.

Sylvia, Carole, Mia, Alan, (lovely to see you back Alan) and Derek....many thanks for your continued encouragement.

A lovely sketch Fiona

You always have a great sense of place . Like lots .

Thank you very much David. Sylvia, that's lovely thing to say it means a great deal thank you very much.

You must tell me how you make architecture so loose. This is wonderful & I like the colours used.

Lol there's no secret Willie, it's simply that I can't draw and a very ancient dip nib pen that I really must put out to grass one of these days. lol Thank you very much for your comment.

Another fantastic work Fiona

Lovely crisp lines, with a nice blue tint. As David suggests ,really nicely framed, very nice work.

Thanks very much Petra and Andre for your comments.

Very good Fiona - lots of life in this one and the overall effect is quite impressionistic

Thank you Tom, appreciate your comment.

I think I need to paint again fiona... This has inspired me to think about it again.. Perhaps a bit of orange in there... Lol..you know a little flag maybe artistic licence.. Mind what do I know...

Why have you stopped painting Alan? Nothing serious I hope! Ref the flag, that's just what my husband said, "you could do with a flag in there!" He didn't mention an orange flag though...lol Thanks very much for your comment Alan, hope you get back to painting soon. Thanks very much Gudrun!

Nothing serious stopped me fiona, I just realised my paintings weren't hitting the mark so to speak, they just don't cut the mustard... So I thought about stopping for a while, but then you miss it, and at they end of the day is the process of painting that matters not the end result always..( it's just nice if you get right now and again) lol..

It's frustrating Alan and I understand. I stopped thinking about the end result, it is the process that I......won't say enjoy...... need to do is more like it. I do what I fancy even if it's something silly and I always look at the one I'm working on as a practice for the next one, no pressure then and if one turns out quite well....it's a bonus! lol I hope you get back into it and don't be too hard on yourself, I think your work definitely cuts the mustard, it's exciting stuff.

Beautiful, Fiona. Love the colours and the shades in the Castle.

I'm following you Pete.....thank you...again!lol

Love it and I am very fond of old castles. I really like your pen and ink style.

16" x 12" Pen & watercolour on Jackson's rough paper and Old Holland paints. Caerlaverock Castle is quite an elaborate ruin of a medieval stronghold which was the seat of the Maxwell's from the 13thc to the 17thc. Over the castles history there was a lot of religious turmoil resulting in a number of sieges and the subsequent re-building after conflicts. Done from a quick sketch and photo's.
