This is a great start to the year, the sketch, not the rain. Really excellent Fiona, it's all superbly painted in a lovely style and so fresh and lively.

If you post more like this this year we're in for a treat Fiona

Alan thank you very much! I think you have a painting of mine of this view that I did in the summer, with the sun shining on the hills....no hills in this one, I haven't seen them for days!!lol

That's a lovely thing to say Michael, thank you. I had to force myself to pick up a brush, hope the feeling doesn't persist.

Lovely, light touch, good balance, beautiful shades of colour.

This is a really atmospheric and well painted watercolour Fiona, more than a sketch I would suggest, like it .

Looks like an Edward Wesson I love it super painting one of your best I'd say Fiona.

Super watercolour of water Fiona and as Alan said, a great start for the new year. I had the same feeling after Xmas holiday that I can't paint anymore but like you I took the brush in my hand and forced myself to start et voilà, no problem. Let's hope for dryer weather now!

What a belter to start the year off with. A lovely painting/sketch that I have to agree with all the laudits that were previously mentioned. A great result with a limited palette, well done Fiona.

Lovely painting Fiona and great washes and very atmospheric.

Gorgeous really loose, everything that attracts me about a watercolour.

Super, lively work Fiona, similar to my sketch posted today, often the simplest statement works the best.

Everything's been said Fiona. All I can add is 'ditto'

Fiona, this is elegantly simple and very calming to look at.

So some good has come out of storm ´Frank´, your watercolour. Looking forward to your next painting of the first sunshine on those fields.

Very atmospheric Fiona and beautifully painted.

Love lit is too. Light and airy, a promise of Spring Fiona.

Lovely painting Fiona. You have captured the fresh wetness of the weather. Like it.

Thank you all so much for your generous comments, they are very much appreciated.

Lovely soft colours in this Fiona, and those bright spots of white in the water reflections really sparkle.

Fiona, you have alovely unique and individual style....I love this painting and the magic that you work with just a few minimal brushstrokes!!

They already said it all, Fiona: stunning. I immediately saw that this was one of yours. Best wishes, Mia :)

Jenny, Chandra, Mia....ladies thank you very much for your kind comments. If you are interested in the colours used they are; ultra marine, raw umber and Van dyke brown X

Beautiful Fiona :)

Storm Frank has a lot to answer for but it's helped you produce another stunner of a watercolour Fiona. Your watercolurs are so simple ( by that I don't mean easy by any means :) ) but they are so, so effective.

What an absolutely superb painting, Fiona! I think it's great; fresh and clean and bright. There is so much excellent work posted on this site, and so quickly, I cannot keep up....but I just couldn't let this one pass!!

Thank you Maria. Val thank you, I have to keep them simple, otherwise it all goes terribly wrong!!lol Tok about 15 minutes, apart from the dry flicky bits.

Thanks Lionel, I'm glad you like it! Yes, you're right there are some fantastic works on the site at the moment, ( I don't include mine in that statement mind you, I'm happy to be average!) Happy new Year to you and Mary, hope it will be a healthy one! X

Stunning, Fiona! The lost and found edges are really effective in this piece.

Beautiful. Love the marks you have used and the colours :)

Very kind of you to comment Robin, thank you.

Lovely atmospheric painting, great composition.

Thanks very much Paul!

Very loose and fresh! Great, love it Fiona

First painting of the year...well a sketch really. Watercolour of what the storm 'Frank' has left behind in the fields around Galloway.
