Beautiful painting

Superb Fiona adds the magic

A lovely painting depicting the unusual evening light Fiona. I think it's probably unique to your part of the UK, did you experience the Northern Lights recently, I saw on TV that parts of Scotland did?
If you hadn't described it I would have thought 'snow', but I can see what you mean, it's the effect of light. Anyway, I like it and I do love the foreground scribbles especially, and of course a great sky. Nice work Fiona.

A fresh, lively watercolour Fiona, the sky is very nicely done.

This captures the scene beautifully with the minimum of brush strokes. Lovely.

This is very pleasing, Fiona. It's so interesting to see other's styles and techniques. I love the stark contrasts that you have achieved in this, it really captures the imagination. I know what you mean about that strange 'pinky light'........I'm right down south in Bucks, and we had it yesterday. Quite eerie in a way. You have caught that eerieness so well, almost an unnatural light. Lovely work.

Lovely sky Fiona, and great trees!

We had that very strange orangey pink light yesterday here in Berks too. As you said just before dark. Our patio concrete slabs were like reflecting it. It didn't last long but was quite extraordinary.
Your painting is absolutely gorgeous Fiona and you have caught the atmosphere very well.

I must be the only one who didn't see this - what was I doing? This looks very spontaneous Fiona, great to capture something as it happens.

beautiful Fiona, Love the colours :)

Many thanks Ruthy, Dennis.
Yes Christine there were spectacular night skies a few weeks ago...thank you for your comment.
Thank you very much Alan, Stephen, Margaret for you lovely comments.
I think quite a few place witnessed this unusual light, a friends sister lives in Hampshire and she saw it. Thanks for your comment Ann.
Thanks so much Chandra, Satu, Marjorie, and Maria.....very kind of you to comment.
Thisi is a wonderful painting, so natural and with lovely limited palette, Fiona. Gratulations for having been selected.

I like everything about this painting Fiona.
Diana

Superb brush marks Fiona

Thank you very much Cesare, Diana, Michael your comments are much appreciated.

Fabulous! Love the spiky trees. We had fog ... no pink anything so this makes up for it.

Well deserved to be featured, lovely work

That's a superb piece of work Fiona , I love the combination of wet in wet and dry brush work , that pink really works, Edward Seago used to use a beautiful pinky colour in a lot of his watercolours also the great John Pike used a very subtle but beautiful technique for his first wash which I only heard about last year and must start using .

Love that light, the touch of pink it gives a great Winter look Fiona.

Gudrun, Glennis, Carole....thank you ladies, you are always very generous with your comments, thank you.
I'm not familiar with John Pike Dermot but I will be looking him up. Thank you for your lovely comment Dermot much appreciated.

Such a lovely scene Fiona. Beautiful work.

Hi Fiona , here is a link for John Pike paintings

https://www.pinterest.com/leonlord/john-pike-1911-1979/

Sorry about that link it doesn't seem to be active , just go onto Pinterest and type in John Pike watercolours you won't regret it his work is fabulous :)

Thank you Jennifer very much.

Hi Dermot, I googled John Pike as soon as I read your original post. His work is beautiful and I noticed what you said about him using a pinky tint on some of his watercolours. I've added him to my very long list of artists on my favourites...lol Thanks for the information, much appreciated

Fiona, this is a masterly atmospheric study—I love it.

Hi Fiona , you're most welcome , John differed to Edward Seago in the way he started a painting , John would wet the paper and criss cross it with very weak washes of a blue , yellow and red and tilt the paper let the weak colour run together the idea is to kill the White of the paper and the colour has to be very weak ; when it dries it gives a lovely glow to the paper I use the technique sometimes on beach scenes or a landscape with a large sky ... give it a go sometime and see what you think :)

You're most welcome Fiona ; I've seen Andrew Pitts work before and I like it it reminds of Edward Wessons type of work .
John Pikes work is beautifully fresh because he achieved his freshness by not overworking as in too many washes , if you look at a lot of his skies they have a warm green tint in them which is thalo green and Windsor blue used very diluted , beautiful skies in all his paintings .

The best I've ever seen and I've seen most Is Trevor Chamberlin his work is staggeringly brilliant I think anyway .
Have you an all time favourite ?

Many thanks Alan, you are very kind.

Morning Fiona , I often look at Wessons paintings myself and study his technique , quite marvellous to behold .
Trevor Chamberlin finishes most paintings in two washes it has taken him a lifetime to get this brilliant , John Pike stated its rare one sees a great watercolourist under 50 !

Have a great week 😊

I recognise your style in this Fiona. Another beautiful painting. Love your skies!

Thank you Peter, you are very generous.

Thank you very much Annette.

14"x10" on Arches, old Holland paints; Ven. red, P. grey, U. marine. Surprisingly this isn't a snow scene......I don't know about else where in the uk but here the last couple of evenings , just before dark, have been a really weird 'pinky' light even though it's been grey and miserable. This is a view across the field from where I sit in the evenings and because the fields where wet it reflected this strange light everywhere....very odd. It's as near as I can get to it.
