Might be the first but I bet I won't be the last to comment - this is clean and fresh - lovely little painting.

Stayed very close to Cullodon last week Fiona as my brother lives on the edge of the battlefields, a very haunting and atmospheric place. Like Michael said this is clean and fresh and your pen work and palette are perfect as always.

Thank you very much indeed Michael.
It's funny how the atmosphere of the place strikes you isn't it Val, I've been there when there's no other soul about...living that is....and I've been there when it's crowded with tourists from all nations but there's no sound, a stillness, not even bird song or the sound of insects....very wierd. Thank you for your comment, very kind.

Lovely Fiona, it really captures the nature of that cottage, I like the washes personally. When I visited this site, it was on a day when the mist was down and there was a heavy drizzle keeping people away and just like when I am in the high mountains, I got the feeling I was not alone. The place is so atmospheric I think you have captured the history and sadness of the place in your depiction of the cottage, nice one.

No way overdone Fiona cooked perfect

No- I don't think you have overdone the washes Fiona - I like the liveliness - it looks good to me. I love the variety of colours In the old thatched roof.

Very lively and superbly drawn Fiona, great pen work as always, colours are so fresh. Nice branches protruding into the scene to fill that void.

Love the thatch Fiona, lovely palette again.
Colourful washes and loads of vitality in your pen marks. An eye-catching piece.

Malcolm, Dennis, Julie, Alan, Carole, Helen, Avril....many thanks for your very kind comments, much appreciated.

The cottage looks beautiful Fiona, with all those amazing colours. Just Lovely. :)

What character this cottage has! Lovely strong pen lines and good washes (not overdone at all). A nice image and an interesting story to go with it.

I'm not sure how I missed this earlier when I was catching up! I love the tufted roof. Pen work and wash lovely as ever. Satisfying to look at if that makes sense!?

I do like your pen and wash drawings Fiona, I've never been to Culloden but of course know it's history, it's just as I imagined it, an atmospheric place and drawing.

Maria, Thea, Gudrun, Christine thank you all very much, I thought I had really gone over the top with the washes on this one....just got carried away with it! Glad you like it.

The washes make it Fiona, lovely marks and caught the place.

Thank you very much Derek, glad you think there is a trace of something in it of the place, it's a difficult thing to capture.

Timeless and atmospheric, lovely

Thank you Lesley!

Loads of great textures on this one, Fiona. The thatched roofs are superbly rendered. Love the scribbles and the dabs and dashes of color, they really add to the worn appearance of the cottage.

Thank you Seok!

Pen & wash 12" x 9". Any who have visited Culloden will know this cottage and it's history. It is said to have been there, along with outbuildings at the time of the battle. Over did it on the washes a bit.
