Very atmospheric Fiona! Love it!

This is very effective Fiona -it amazes me what you can achieve just with pencil. It has real sense of movement. Well done.

I like the wavy lines that the stubble rows make, another good 'un! It has been so hot, I am surprised that you got any drawing done at all. I am contemplating going out early tomorrow, around 3.30 am, to sketch whilst it is still cool. We'll see...

Thanks very much Sarah! Carol thank you, I really wanted to do it in pen & wash but the paint was drying so fast I gave up, at least my lead didn’t melt! Lol 3.30???? Alita, that’s barmey! Lol 😂 I’m getting lots of arty stuff done to be honest because ordinarily I would be spending the time in the garden, but it’s too hot to do anything after about 10am.....leaves me lots of time to paint...yeah! Without feeling guilty! Thank you.

I love the movement in the lines, Fiona. To my way of thinking it fills the composition with energy and the rooks in the sky provide movement and interest as well. We don't have rooks in Canada - maybe our crows would come close?

Another really good one Fiona. The rooks are great again but the stubble is the star, love all those squiggly marks.

Super pencil drawing, Fiona. Captured the atmosphere perfectly.

I like it Fiona - but dare I stick my neck out again and say I like even better if I take out the cart and tree on the right hand skyline. Right cheeky I know

Wib, thank you very much. I should think crows will do very nicely. Gudrun, Marjorie, Helen, Seth, Margaret.....thank you really appreciate your feedback.

Mike, stick your neck out as much as you like, I appreciate advice and ideas about anything I do. I could make this into two separate pictures if I do as you suggested.....something to keep in mind for the winter when I need all the ideas I can get. Could do the left hand side as a drawing and turn the right hand side into a pen and wash or something. Great idea, thanks mike.

This is the best of these 'gleaners' so far Fiona. The eye is led nicely into the focal point of the cart and the larger birds.

Full of life. I really like this, Fiona

Lovely stripes in that field of rooks Fiona, don't know how you managed it in this hot weather, I've had the pastels out this week it's been too hot for watercolour, sitting under the sunshade of course 😁😁😁

Alan, Margaret, Pete, Linda......thank you very much for such lovely comments, I enjoyed doing this one in spite of the weather. I’m going to attempt a pen & wash of the right hand side of the wall view at some point today. Got the brolly up and the Sangria chilling .......😎🍹

Super Fiona. The "S" shape really works .

Thanks Richard!

Very cleverly done Fiona, the effect of the stubble is very convincing and the loose style just works so well.

Another good one Fiona, especially like the field and the way it leads us to the rooks.

Keith, Val.....thank you both for your super comments. I like doing this kind of subject.

16”x12” graphite stick, 5b, 6b pencil. Couldn’t resist one more of the Rooks, this time on the field behind me. Cut for hay rather than silage but the cut fields are still a magnet for these opportunists and a free and easy meal. Not so good if you are a casualty of course. Stood as long as I could bear it in the heat on Tuesday, got the bare bones then finished it off in the shade......with a long cool glass of something......
