This is lovely, Fiona, great tonal range. (What pastels are you using now?)

Good sense of distance in this scene Fiona, the stream leads the eye through the work very well.

Great foreground Fiona and the blue hills really give recession. I really like the colours in the stream and the overall pallet, a really nice piece of work Fiona.

Thank you Jenny. I spoiled myself and bought a set of Terry Ludwig pastels, I can't describe how beautiful they are to use. I suppose the support has much to do with the overall result too, I'm trying the Uart 400 sanded paper. The pastel actually stays on the support instead of gathering around my feet!

Thank you very much Stephen and Malcolm. I confess to making a pretty bad job of the sky on the left around the tree area, managed to hide all the smudge marks!

Looks really wonderful Fiona, the colours in your new pastel set are really bright and set this scene off a treat

This is lovely Fiona.

Wow, Fiona this is just great! Lovely marks and a very confident strong style!

Delicious colours all round Fiona. A stunning scene.

Brilliant work Fiona absolutely gorgeous and happy you have found the perfect pastel materials

Thanks ever so much David, Barry, Satu, Sarah, Dennis for your continued encouragement.

I think this is the nature reserve we visited with my partner and his daughter in January. There were a lot of birds and it was a nice fresh walk. The end of summer must be very colourful just as you pictured it here. Very well done Fiona.

Beautiful. Just had a wonderful holiday in that area too.

Nice pair ting and good composition the foreground shadow works well so your eyes go straight into the painting

Absolutely fabulous result with your new pastels.

Lovely marshland look about it Fiona. A standard to aspire to.

Artist's licence F, take out what you want... I was well impressed when I spotted this one, the depth and variation of shadows probably drew my immediate attention, I hate insipid work. From my thumbnail I assumed that it was an oil so I was surprised to find it was pastel. Keep this standard up.

Your new tools work very well, Fiona, and can be seen you enjoyed it.

I wondered if they were Terry Ludwig - this painting reminds me of Karen Margulis's work and she uses the same pastels and paper. Looks like they're well worth the investment!

Thank you Ibolya and Dawn, glad you both had a good visit and enjoyed the area. Many thanks Dennis, Sandra, Brian for you generous comments. So pleased you like it Alan! Thank you very much Cesare! Hi Jenny, I found a demo by Karen Margulis by accident whilst looking for info on the Tim Fisher pastel paper. I was spell bound by her easy, loose and expressive style, and how the pastels she used just glided across the support. I can tell you they are gorgeous and lush....but quite expensive.....worth it though! Thank you for commenting.

I too thought it was oils. It just shows you how good quality materials are a joy! Great pastel. Rich as you say.

Just found this Fiona and I too though it was oils. I really like the sense of distance you have achieved and the colours are wonderful. It's lovely to see you enjoying your new pastels.

Very bold and colourful - great work Fiona

Lovely work Fiona. Composition great, love the foreground grasses/reeds.

Thank you so much Gudrun, Carol, Peter, Maureen, Margaret and Marjorie for your generous comments. I wish I could produce anything near this in oils, don't know why I can't! Lol

Fabulous work Fiona, nice to try a different media and support isn't it?

I agree with you about the sanded Uart paper. It's a great experience to use . This is a lovely landscape. Excellent result.

Superb picture Fiona, one of your best. Beautiful subject, very well executed.

It is Carole, it keeps me on my toes! Thank you. Thank you Michael that's very kind. It's fabulous paper Linda, wish I had known about it when I first started using pastel again. Thanks very much for your comment. Keith, thank you! You are always generous in your comments.

12x9 pastel. New pastels, new paper......absolutely fabulous to work with! This burn runs from the Martyrs stake to the reserve at Wigtown bay, the view is looking out from the bird hide and away from the estuary. There should be sluice about half way up but it didn't look right so pasteled it out.
