Love your monochrome style Fiona.

Looks great Fiona and the colour is most unusual but gorgeous

Lovely mood in this Fiona

Another interesting and useful lesson in tonal structure Fiona, an excellent tutor you have, this is shaping up nicely.

Great tonal exercise, executed with aplomb. , a nice atmospheric still life.

Fiona you have achieved a very good tonal balance well done.I have used black paper and white charcoal or white pencil that worked well keep up the good work David Harrison

I was in two minds whether to post this really as it isn't very good in respect of composition, perspectives and of course, with me, those elusive ellipses. But I thought it may be interesting to some to see that black isn't actually black but all kinds of warm and cool shades of colour...which is what this was about. I won't do any more to this other than turn it over ready for the next exercise! Thank you all for your interest and comments. Give it a try!

This looks really interesting to try Fiona. I've done whites before but I'm interested in doing this - thanks for posting.

Fascinating exercise Fiona and not a bad example of your skills. Must try it - one day.

Interesting..

Thank you for posting. You really have hit upon an excellent tutor!

Sounds like a great course you are on Fiona, all these exercises are so interesting and you produce some exciting work.

Many thanks for your comments......I hope it's useful for you to see this kind of exercise. Gudrun, he's an excellent tutor, I feel very fortunate that I got a place in the group.

I haven't tried black on black but most certainly will after seeing this Fiona. Well worth showing and perhaps you will continue working on this, it's lovely.

Thanks Satu! Yes, please, give it a go.....I can't add to it Satu I don't have the still life set up. The tutor is setting up a still life that will cover all that we've been doing this term; white on white, black on black and local colour items. That's going to be a challenge!

A lovely result Fiona..I love the shine on that glass...!! A very interesting exercise.

Nearly missed this one Fiona, a really nice painting.

Thank you Chandra and David for your lovely comments.

16"x11" oil. Todays oil class exercise, painting black objects on black back ground...using neutral colour/tones. Not as easy as the white on white exercise. Lots of issues but it's about paint mixing really.....has anyone else tried black on black?
