I think all your hard work has paid off as the painting is nicely balanced with the strong shapes of the rocks in the foreground and the dark and brooding sky in the top part of the painting. A very atmospheric piece and perhaps when you have put a bit of time and distance between this painting and yourself you will come to see how good it is.

Well I think that it's a superb effort, spot-on composition and with your normal limited palette which easily identifies your work. Love the posts, perfect positioning and scale and adds interest to this glorious scene.

The delicate handling of the foreground rocks and grasses is incredible, so realistic, and the dark green tree in shadow on the left gives height and balance to the whole thing. I also like the way the sand is showing wet patches from the outgoing tide. Well done Fiona, it's a beauty.

Its a lovely painting Fiona and it was worth the effort it a nice painting i like the sky .

Well it certainly worth all the hassle Fiona.

A beauty. I enjoy the paintings that are a struggle because that though stressful is a chance to learn by doing new things and the work is a winner Fiona

Already feeling better about it Thea, like you have mentioned, a little space makes all the difference. Thank you for the encouraging advice. I think the problem was more to do with trying to finish it from a photograph rather from life, which is how I started it. I don't get the same 'feel' from photo's. Thanks again!

Alan thank you very much for your supportive comment, and thanks for the 'gentle' push to get it finished....feeling much better about it now it's out of my system.lol

Thank you Dennis, the sky is the part I like the best! We do like our skies don't we!

Many thanks Carole and Dennis, really appreciate your comments. They do make a difference.

I know the feeling Fiona, I have had several of those battles. But the feeling afterwards when you have finally finished a painting to your liking is great! You have done a very good job with this, especially the tree and the rocks. Well done for persevering.

Well worth the effort. I particularly like the rocks. It's like being nestled before them.

Even with that brooding sky I find this such a calming and relaxing painting to look at. There is a softness about that foreground and middle ground that I find very tranquil. It's up here among my favourites of yours Fiona.

Wow, Fiona! Your oil painting is super. You have really come so far with oils, haven't you.

You've captured a lot of atmosphere in this piece, Fiona. It's more than a creditable effort. You should be proud!

You are all so kind, thank you very much for your encouraging comments.

Oil on canvas board 24"x16" . This has been a battle. I started it on site at one of my oil classes, took some photo's in case I didn't finish it. I've been staring at the unfinished painting for weeks now, so yesterday I had a blitz on it! Wasn't happy with it, so asked advice from one of our gallery artists and after a bit of re-jigging have decided, that's it, I've had enough. It's been a very frustrating painting this one.
