Oil on board

Thanks for saying it's oil on board. There is no option yet to say! Lovely painting. Oil suits you too. Your distinctive style is poking through the tree.

This has come out very well Fiona. It does have a feel of a Seago. You seem to have taken to Oils very well.

Brilliant Fiona all your work is wonderful beautiful painting I love this and so would the man himself.

Fantastic work xx

Coming along nicely - I can see the Seago influence. All you need is more practice so you can equal the standard of your watercolour paintings - bet you aren't using Old Holland oils: or are you? My only suggestion with this one would be that you might use stronger tones in the foreground area next time.

Thank you Gudrun....yes I am enjoying oils very much, love the feel of them. Many thanks Stephen. You are very kind Dennis, I know you are a Seago fan! Thank you very much Paula, much appreciated.

I do use Old Holland oils Robert, but I do limit myself to as few colours as I need. Thank you for the tip re the foreground tones, I always get lost in this area of my paintings, including in watercolour. I think I need to be brave and use a firmer hand! Thank you for your comment.

Yes, it is a lovely piece Fiona and Robert is correct to point this out.

Wonderful - it a great to see oils used in such an expressive loose way. The sky is super and the windblown tree adds so much character. Great work, Fiona.

Some great marks in this - lovely result Fiona

Hi Fiona I'm not sure if its for me Dennis Roberts , but anyway its really lovely very seago and very nice . Great colours and great sky . I'm liking your oils as well , i like all your paintings Fiona. Well done indeed.

A great scene Fiona, looks bleak and a storm brewing. Lovely brush marks.

Beautiful artwork Fiona

Absolutely stunning, Fiona! Your brushwork is so lively and expressive.

A lovely relaxed painting, Fiona. Perfect palette too.

Thank you very much for your great comments everyone, much appreciated.

Lovely impressionist painting Fiona.

Hi Fiona, this is lovely, loose and in oil too. Clever lady , I'm glad that you are enjoying oil painting :)

Good morning, Fiona. As you know, I haven't been around much lately and what with the new site and the speed with which our art gets shuffled back down the queue, I've missed so much work at P-on-L. So, please excuse me for not commenting of late. On looking back through your recent work I must say that I think this is the most wonderful piece of work you have produced; that sky is just glorious and the foreground palette and brush marks are superb. I understand what Robert means but it needs to be done with care - e.g. tone down the bush on the right and only then enhance the tones in the foreground so that the changes are only relative. Don't simply go in and darken the foreground! Love to see more, please!

Kal, Sarah, Lionel many thanks for your generous comments, much appreciated.

Thankyou so much Fiona for taking time to give me that information I do appreciate it . hopefulle I will be able to do something with it and paint one of those water colours . I do like the simple looking style of Edward Wesson lets see where we go with it .

Simplicity is the key here once again, stunning sky and tonal colour throughout. You have the ability to not overwork a painting with detail and it works for me! Well done.

It's that crucial question isn't it.....when to stop!! Thank you Alan, much appreciate you taking the time to look at my pictures.

A very well painted oil Fiona. I've just read your comments on MY painting of 'Calm Sailing' etc so decided to pick this one out for criticism, the fact is though it's damn good. I don't know why you put yourself down, keep up this loose style, it suits you. I don't know how long it took you but as an example my Calm Sailing and Winter in the Trent Valley took about 30 mins or so, which is rapid painting and thereby getting the loose, spontaneous effect we both like.
So, what have we got? A great sky, middle distance and foreground, yes, a fraction darker perhaps on the left only, a few grasses maybe. I like most of the tree but I would have liked to have seen it completely dead and a bit finer brushwork at the edges, OR make a more positive statement with the leaves ( it looks like you are frightened to put them on so you've gone half way) the foliage or ivy on the tree is superb. This painting is getting there so boost yourself up. If you ever need any info at any time I am always here to help, either through these pages or on [email protected]
Alan
