Sounds like a fun place to live Fiona! I like your limited use of colour here, it gives the scene character and a feel of stories to tell.

This is really good Fiona , the limited pallet makes such a difference.

It was remote, quiet and a mysterious place to live Tessa, I loved it! I’m almost describing my personality there! 😂 thank you Tessa! Thank you Paul, I like the simple life!

Really interesting and a lovely sketch too

That is lovely, Fiona! Love your story about the birds in the roof area.

Great story of your childhood house and a lovely sketch to go with it Fiona.

Lovely work Fiona, I really like your description too! There's nowhere quite like the Fens.

Lovely picture Fiona, like the touch of colour.

Great description Fiona, just the sort of place I'd like to live in. Lovely painting.

I enjoyed your story about the birds nesting in your roof, and really like this sketch, especially your limited use of colour.

Heather, David, Sarah, Sarah, Stephen, Denise, Sandra……thank you all very much for your positive comments.

You've combined those three mediums so well Fiona, what a great result!!

Thanks George 😉

Great combination here Fiona, and a lovely picture as well

Super narrative to your lovely painting Fiona. Sounds like your house would have been cold in the winter

Great narrative to go with this cosy scene Fiona. We miss the old days sometimes.

The touches of colour lift this painting so well. Is that a broom I see leaning against the cottage? Ha

Nice one Fiona, I’m going to sort out my liquid charcoal and give it another go!

This is really lovely Fiona. What a lovely place to live.

Many thanks Trevor, Frank, Carole, Martin, Alan, Spencer, I always enjoy reading your comments, thank you! It had very low ceilings upstairs and of course the birds nested in the roof right above my head! Oh yes Martin, there will definitely be a besom by the door……only for sweeping up the leaves of course! Not too cold Frank, open fire in the sitting room, a wood stove in the dining room and an aga in the kitchen which ran the central heating 🥵

Great story and great sketch Fiona. I like the simplicity of the painting!

Thanks again Romila.

Super moody piece, Fiona

Lovely and moody Fiona.

Thank you for your comments Thalia and David, much appreciated.

I love your style sketching Fiona- full of movement.

Thanks Shaun, you are very kind.

Thank you so much Cheryl!

Great limited palette with just enough colour to lift the mood

Thanks very much Thalia.

16”x12” liquid charcoal, willow charcoal and watercolour. Most of the old cottages in the Lincolnshire fens where I lived, had terracotta pan tiles on the roof. My own cottage had these, no felt, just the tile’s laid on the lathes (no nails) and then the ceiling beneath. The birds loved it for nesting under…..noisy in the spring, especially the year there were three starling nest’s and two sparrow nest’s. Excellent alarm clocks though!
