Culross Palace Doorway

Nicely captured Fiona

I do love a good old doorway Fiona! Great colour and style.

Love this loose style Fiona, great picture

Loving the ochre colour and the way you’ve applied different tones, nice style/washes…not the most grandiose door for a palace!

Very effective Fiona

Thank you Chris, Tessa, Trevor, Alan, Heather….for your positive comments. Tessa, I like old doors and windows too. Lots of character and not too big a challenge when all you want to do is a scribble or something, especially when that’s all you have the time or inclination for. Alan, Culross isn’t technically a palace to be honest but in the 16th/17th century it was very grand so was called a palace. This door is a side door not the main entrance. However, the main entrance isn’t that much grander than this one. I might do that one next! I took lots of photos of the doors and windows when visiting.

Lovely colours Fiona.

This painting, Fiona, has quite a dramatic look. It caught my eye. I like the ochre and the black, they work very well together.

Very effective use of the watercolour medium Fiona.

I love your use of wet in wet technique here Fiona. Like Alan I did wonder about the plainness of the door for a place but understand now.

Love the simplicity of the superb piece Fiona .

I love old doors too. This one is so effective yet has the air of simplicity.

Very good loose style to this.

Watercolour and Indian ink sketch of one of the many doorways of Culross palace. The walls of the palace are painted in this wonderful ochre colour.
