Galloway Hills To The North.....(3)

A lovely mixed media piece Fiona, really like the pastel colours (and the composition with the wall/fence line on the diagonal).

A lovely one Fiona. Those tiny bits of black showing through hold it together and the colours sing, even tho' they're pastel. I love the scratchy branches.

A typical Fiona homeland sketch. Lovely.

A terrific idea Michael! Thank you. Thanks Jenny, the wall has more ups and downs than this in reality. Marjorie thank you. I don’t know why but colours do seem to shine out on a black ground. Thank you very much Jim.

Love the lightness of this and the colours work really well.

A successful one, the colours are so harmonised.

Ooh, cold cold cold - great use of pink Fiona

Great composition and colours Fiona.

Beautiful scene and the colours are lovely.

The pastel colours are different and effective Fiona.

Not sure why you’ve used a black ground but you must have your reasons... However, I like this composition even though it all looks a bit flat in tone.

It certainly is a wintry scene. Agree about the wall on the diagonal. It is a long time since we spent some time in Galloway. Loch Trool, Newton Stewart and on to Portpatrick. When the good times come back ..........

It certainly looks jolly cold there Fiona and the mixed media has been very effective.

Beautiful view Fiona and I love those colours so much!

You've really captured that cold look here Fiona, brilliant colours!!

What more to say Fiona. It's great.

It's a scraggy time of year with everything in the landscape struggling to survive (like the rest of us) -and it's all in your super painting!

So beautiful, Fiona - love that sky.

Thank you very much everyone for your interesting observations, I wanted cold, desolate and emptiness and as Willie mentioned, struggle. Thanks again. X Alan, I have two very good reasons for using a black ground....it’s MY painting and I wanted too...darling. X

A beautiful painting Fiona!

Christina and Tomasz, thank you both very much.

Thanks Gudrun, I did enjoy doing this , quite free and liberating.

Beautiful mark making, really captures the spirit of the landscape in winter

Wow very unusual and eye opening, excellent!

Stephen, my apologies for taking so long to thank you. William, you are very generous, thank you.

16”x14” mixed media...oil, charcoal and a bit of scratching out, black gesso ground on board. I did a quick sketch a week or so ago, in charcoal and pastel from the patio looking north to the hills. They’d had a dusting of snow overnight and the light was clear enough to make out most of the hills. Remembering a couple of colours I had put together on a failed painting last week, thought I would give them a go in this one.
