St. Medan’s - a glorious day out! by Fiona Phipps

Well this is an interesting piece Fiona! A very well balanced design with rather striking colours, and some interesting scribbly bits - good stuff!

A great piece of work Fiona, love the line work depicting distant hills and colours are very complimentary to each other 👍

Just love this style, Fiona! Very effective contrast of shapes, colors and line. A stunner!

Really enjoying seeing your abstraction Fiona - it’s really interesting and it works.

Thanks Al! I think you would have enjoyed the stroll up the beach, about five other people there, the nearest about quarter of a mile away. Many thanks Linda, it was a smashing morning with the sun shining and a gentle sea breeze. Seok, thank you for your kind words, pleased you like it. Tracy, thank you for your lovely comment.

I love the colour combinations Fiona and the way your composition leads the eye to the exit point is very good. A really nice piece and another change in style. A cracking piece.

Thank you Shaun, I hope I get some of the message of what is in the painting over.....even just a wee bit. Gudrun, thank you!! Thank you for your very generous words Stevan. It’s all over the place, my style, if I have one.....it changes like the wind! Lol. Depends on the subject I think.....and mood. Wish I could settle to painting the same way. Thanks again.

And it's led to a glorious artwork too Fiona, love your free mark making, inclusion of the different shapes and the cheerful colour palette, fantastic

It’s full of cheer and exuberance so expresses itself extremely well. You should do more like this perhaps!

Beautiful pallet! You know me I love my bright colours and this appeals very much. X

Wow Fiona that is different, great colors very uplifting, great line work on the hills, like it, I know what you mean about wanting to get out, I am shielded so I don't know when I will be escaping, but at least I have my garden and studio to sit in, again nice work Fiona.

Attractive semi abstract, Fiona - that lovely orange/blue combination again!

Fiona I don’t know a lot about abstract painting, so will not make a comment on style etc. I do like it, because of the lovely colours you have used , and when I look close I can see different images in there.

A real lift Fiona for you and the lovely colours for us :)

Many thanks to you all for your love.y feedback, I’m not so good with the abstract thingy but I did enjoy getting absorbed in to this. Glad it gave some of you a lift.

If I am honest, don’t know but it’s very striking! I have seen you doing some wonderful work and you know what I think?

I know what you mean William and I appreciate your honesty, you prefer, and I do prefer, the more traditional style of watercolour. But it’s good to have a change now and again. X Thank you for your comment.

Fiona I take back what I said as it was unfair and disrespectful! You paint what you enjoy and you have pleased a lot of people so what do I know! I am no art critic. ❤️

William, don’t be daft. I didn’t take your comment any other way than constructive and honest, so don’t worry yourself over it....please.

Ha the great escape Fiona. It certainly paid off in this painting. I am also unsure about abstract painting but the colours in this are so striking and truly uplifting. Well done. By the way e mail received thanks.

Thank you very much as always Carol. Abstracts were not my cup of tea either once upon a time but since studying at them and attempting a few, I quite enjoy doing them now and again.

12”x9” mixed media, watercolour, gouache and conte crayon on Jacksons paper. St. Medan’s beach is a lovey cove on the shores of Luce bay, it’s about 20 minutes drive away, don’t tell anyone but I went there on Sunday, only for a couple of hours though. After 12 weeks of not going out anywhere it surely was a boost for the soul. A semi abstract view up the beach, the Mull of Galloway off to the right and the Isle of Man over to the left, with the usual beach detritus in between.
