Why is messy Fiona---- Good composition ---very loose but very well painted--- well done

Hmmm, I think spontaneously and artistically loose with a purpose better describes this than "messy", Fiona! Agree with Mark - you've really captured the moment.

Its not messy at all! I think the dark clouds are a bit too dark, and could do with being blended in a bit, although I like the spidery effect at the bottom of them, and also the tiny trees. Better than my efforts lately.

And in addtion to the above compliments, the touch of blue in the foreground is just right.

Lovely elm tree, Fiona!! Not messy at all. Lovely bold and eye catching work. It takes courage and skill to pull off these very simple compositions - and you have done it so well here.

My goodness, thank you all very much for your encouraging and generous comments. Perhaps I've found my medium? Kevin, you're dead right about the clouds, I expected the ink to spread out across the paper more than it did when I added the wash. It didn't, and I was left with two its of tatty cotton wool!!! I'll know for next time though.

I think this is very lively and spontaneous, Fiona. You know pen and wash is my favourite technique and I love yours. Well done!
