Well let me be the first to congratulate you - I'm sure there will be many others - I love it.

A really lovely painting Ellie.

I agree with Debs and Denise, it is a lovely portrait

A beautiful portrait

This is a lovely portrait, Ellie and the hair is brilliantly done (I still struggle with hair!). I know you and I are trying to head in the same direction with our portraits, so you hopefully won't mind me making one observation. I am a little distracted by the two lines down the nose. Perhaps you might need to either lose one or soften one as they are, to me, a little confusing. It is such a gorgeous portrait that I don't want my eye drawn to that rather than enjoying the overall beauty of the work. Please feel free to ignore me of course - it is only an opinion and nothing more.

Thanks everyone. Thea, I see what you mean, I hadn't noticed before. The photo I took of him had rather complicated shadows on his face, which I tried to simplify - perhaps not quite enough :) Can't make the correction now though as his mum has already taken it away to be framed... never mind, learning for next time:) I was quite pleased with the effect of having dived in and gone for a background this time - it does make these little blondies stand out.

I don't know much about painting faces and portraits.....I just know I like it. It's lovely!

Lovely portrait of child - you have caught her in a fleeting moment - very well done!

I totally agree with your about the background, Ellie. It really makes the blonde hair look so pale and lovely. Great choice of colours in the background by the way. Someone gave me a tip about portraits - hold them up and look at them in a mirror. When I started to do this anything that wasn't quite right really showed up in a way that I hadn't been able to see when the painting was on my easel. What I mentioned was only a tiny niggle. No-one else mentioned it, so it was just probably me being a bit over picky.

This is really lovely, Ellie- You've captured the childlike curiosity in his expression beautifully.

Just seen this portrait - a little late. i love it! It's so strong!

After getting your encouraging comment today, I looked you up! Now, this portrait is wonderful but I can't see me ever achieving this standard. Watercolour portraits are just too difficult, one wrong move and the paintings ruined. Not only that, but you have to get a good likeness. I'll probably try again but landscapes and still lifes seem so easy compared to painting faces :) This one is my favourite from your gallery but they are all good.

I agree with everyone, this a super rendition of a young girl beautiful face, super features and gorgeous glowing blonde hair, really love how you have the hair billowing out around her

This is a bit of a departure for me in terms of style so I'll be interested to hear what you guys think! My aim was to try to achieve the contemporary feel of some of my sepia portraits but in colour.
