This really works. Lovely painting. Colours are good as is everything else. I must give it a go - water.

Simple, well considered portrait study...worth repeating. I'd leave out the glass and round orange shape as they are a distraction...takes the eye away from the face and hands.

Agree with above comments this is really good pastel work, pastel is not easy I have struggled with mine but you have done great here Duncan

I love your portraits. I think it is the vignette style you favour and your use of white which gives such wonderful highlights that makes them so appealing to me. Great work. P.S. I quite like the glass and orange - art is so subjective, isn't it!

Thanks,Gudrun, Thea, Ros and Roger. The 'orange shape' is a reflection of Maggie's neckline, believe it or not. I have left the painting unfinished on my easel - I'll probably attack it (and the orange shape) one day when I decide, once and for all, whether it is a distraction. I will post it up again if I do that.

Unison Pastel on Art Spectrum Paper. I'm trying to loosen up a bit - pastel scumbled over the surface and 'painted' with large water-filled brush to provide a tonal underpainting (with lots of drips and runs). Highlights applied with broad pastel strokes and detail (eyes, fingers etc..) with pastel pencils.
