Dirty old train

Beautiful detail, Paul!

Great drawing and sense of movement Paul

I loved those dirty old trains!

Thank you for your kind comments, there is something about the look and smell of old transport, trains in particular.

I agree about the sense of movement, like the smokey effect around the wheels.

Thanks Lew you comment is much appreciated.

A good feeling of the grime and disrepair of this loco in the late 60's. However, one of the dangers of drawing steam locomotives is that the railway anoraks (like me) will look at it in detail! This is a Stanier 2-8-0 and the two leading driving wheels should be the same as the others. Perhaps a bit more leaking steam around those wheels would help conceal the difference.

Thank you for the observation Trevor, as you say it a risk, funny enough a friend of mine who is also a railway buff didn’t pick up on it.

The steam effect is excellent and all your "vintage" sketches are really good.

Pencil a4, dirty they might’ve been but they were wonderful to see and ride on. Each engine seemed to have it own unique character.
