I’ve had this sitting around for quite a while unfinished, decided to add some pen work and darken it a little bit.

A really superb result, Paul - so full of interest, too!!

Beautifully atmospheric, Paul - I can almost hear that water lapping!

Great river scene Paul, nicely done.

I really like this. For some reason it reminds me of Lowrie

Interesting composition, love it

Thank you for the kind comment I appreciate them and pleased I decided to work on this rather than bin it.

This makes me think of Lowry in terms of colour and style. Love it

I agree with Peter, definitely a feel of Lowry about it. Nice work

Yes, definitely Lowryesque, I like this Paul

Thank you for the kind comments , well I’ve never been told that any of my work looks like Lowrie’s what a compliment, totally unintentional. I did take a peek at his industrial scenes and can see where your coming from .

I really like this one, the colours are beautiful !!

I agree with many of the comments Paul, it has that Lowery look about it and you’ve done yourself proud! Keep up the good work.🙏👍👌

I love everything about this, from the sky to the ships and the water. Those rays of light trying to get through are scrumptious. Its a delightful piece.

Full of interest and a lovely colour combination used throughout Paul.

There's a lot going on here Paul, and you've pulled it all togeather very well. Lovely painting.

Thank you all for the comments they are really appreciated.

Really like panoramic views. This has a lot going for it ✔️

I love the painting, and I love the format. Well done Paul.

Can anyone else hear putt putt putt and the occasional fog horn.

No but I can smell the smoke, thanks Gerry for you comment.

I'm late to seeing this wonderful depiction of boats on the Thames. It's full of charm, beautifully drawn and painted. The composition, the clouds, the smoke, the red buildings with the tiny yellow lights poking through. It' beautiful.

Thank you Lynne I appreciate your kind comment.

Your ship paintings are always interesting Paul and I do love the background sky in this one.

Thank you Sandra. I enjoyed painting the sky .

Watercolour and pen painting, set in the early morning on the Thames once call the river that never sleeps due to all the shipping coming and going. The scene is one that still takes place these days despite the docks no longer operating, it taking barges up and down the river, mostly taking waste away . The tugs used are much smaller than ones used to tow ships .

About the Artist
Paul (Dixie) Dean

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
